Recently the Black Employee Network (BEN) at Digitas Atlanta hosted its first-ever student workshop for Georgia State University students on the ins and outs of marketing and ad agency life. The workshop was held at the downtown university during its annual Student Success Summit, where some of Georgia State’s best and brightest students came out to hear from Atlantaemployees and executives eager to share their experiences and insights .
The workshop, Advertising 101: A Digital Marketing Lens from Digitas ATL, gave students in the metro Atlanta area an inside look at Digitas. Here are some of the key takeaways they got from this experience:
- Interning is an excellent – and often necessary - way to jumpstart a career in marketing and can lead you to the job you want/deserve. At Digitas, our internship program is a great way for us to meet rising talent and recruit promising young minds into the agency.
- Offering clients a full service account experience with a robust advertising model can mean the difference between winning and not winning major accounts. And not only is building solid client partnerships crucial to the day-to-day work of the agency, but it often leads to increases in projects and programs.
- “Teamwork makes the dream work.” This business is all about working in teams across a wide range of capabilities, from project management to strategy and analysis to creative. At the end of the day, what makes it work is putting forth a cohesive group effort based on the exchange of unique and solid ideas, concepts and points of view, despite the differences in job capabilities.
Faylene Bell, VP of Marketing, also shared professional advice on career and resume building with the students to better prepare them for what agencies are looking for in an ideal candidate. Students were able to view and assess actual client work produced by the various teams and participate in a discussion that gave them a better understanding of the Digitas process – how we create ideas that move people in new ways.
Stay tuned for more awesome events like this one from the Digitas Atlanta BEN group, and we’ll keep you posted on what BEN and other groups are up to in and around the office.
